Section 37-4-1 Definitions. Unless otherwise specified, when used in this article, these terms
shall have the following meanings: (1) COMMISSION. The Alabama Public Service Commission.
(2) COMMISSIONER. A member of the commission. (3) MUNICIPALITY. Any municipal corporation
organized under the laws of this state. (4) PERSON. Such term shall mean and include individuals,
associations of individuals, firms, partnerships, companies, corporations, municipalities,
governmental agencies, their lessees, trustees, or receivers appointed by any court whatsoever,
in the singular number as well as in the plural. (5) NONUTILITY. Any federal agency, instrumentality,
or corporation, owned by the United States, and any corporation or joint stock company in
which the United States or any of its departments, establishments, or agencies, owns more
than 50 percent of the voting shares of stock of such corporation or joint stock company.

Section 22-21-270 Certificates of need - Period for which valid; extension of time; termination;
transferability. (a) A certificate of need issued under subsection (a) of Section 22-21-265
and Section 22-21-268 shall be valid for a period not to exceed 12 months and may be subject
to one extension not to exceed 12 months, provided the criteria for extension as set forth
in the rules and regulations of the SHPDA are met. Applications for an extension filed under
this section shall be accompanied by a filing fee to be established by rule, not to exceed
25 percent of the original CON application fee. If no obligation has occurred within such
period, the certificate of need shall be considered terminated and shall be null and void.
Should the obligation be incurred within such valid period, the certificate of need shall
be continued in effect for a period not to exceed one year or the completion of the construction

Section 27-6B-4 Contract requirements. (a) Unless there is a written contract between the controlling
producer and the insurer approved by the board of directors of the insurer and specifying
the responsibilities of each party, a controlled insurer shall not accept business from a
controlling producer and a controlling producer shall not place business with a controlled
insurer. The contract between a controlling producer and a controlled insurer shall, as a
minimum, contain all of the following: (1) A provision that, upon written notice to the controlling
producer, the controlled insurer may terminate the contract for cause. The controlled insurer
shall suspend the authority of the controlling producer to write business during any pending

Section 8-7A-2 Definitions. For purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall have the
following meanings: (1) AGENT or AUTHORIZED DELEGATE. Any person designated or employed by
