Section 24-1-22 Definitions. The following terms, wherever used or referred to in this article,
shall have the following respective meanings, unless a different meaning clearly appears from
the context: (1) AUTHORITY or HOUSING AUTHORITY. A public body organized as a body corporate
and politic in accordance with the provisions of this article for the purposes, with the powers
and subject to the restrictions set forth. (2) CITY. Any city or incorporated town in the
State of Alabama. (3) COUNCIL. The legislative body, council, board of commissioners or other
body charged with governing the city. (4) CITY CLERK and MAYOR. The clerk, and the mayor or
president of the board of commissioners, respectively, of the city or the officers thereof
charged with the duties customarily imposed on the clerk and mayor respectively. (5) COMMISSIONER.
One of the members of an authority appointed in accordance with the provisions of this article.

Section 26-10A-2 Definitions. The following words and phrases shall have the following meaning
whenever used in this chapter except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
(1) ABANDONMENT. A voluntary and intentional relinquishment of the custody of a minor by parent,
or a withholding from the minor, without good cause or excuse, by the parent, of his or her
presence, care, love, protection, maintenance, or the opportunity for the display of filial
affection, or the failure to claim the rights of a parent, or the failure to perform the duties

Section 36-25-9 Service on regulatory boards and commissions regulating business with which
person associated; members who have financial interest in matter prohibited from voting. (a)
Unless expressly provided otherwise by law, no person shall serve as a member or employee

Section 40-1-1 Definitions. For purposes of this title, and subject to additional definitions
which are applicable to specific chapters or parts thereof, and unless the context otherwise

Section 19-3B-103 Definitions. In this chapter: (1) ACTION, with respect to an act of a trustee,
includes a failure to act. (2) ASCERTAINABLE STANDARD means a standard relating to an individual's
