Section 45-27-244.08 Alternative procedures. The procedure authorized by this subpart for the payment of ad valorem taxes on motor vehicles and motor vehicle license taxes and the issuance of license tags or decals is optional, and alternative to the procedure now provided by law. Each owner of a motor vehicle shall continue to have the right to pay taxes and to receive his or her tag or decal in person, without the necessity of paying the mailing fee provided for herein. The Judge of Probate of Escambia County shall not be required to collect such taxes and issue license tags or decals by mail as herein provided, unless he or she elects to do so. Section 45-16-200.01 Renewal of licenses by mail; Mail Order Fee. (a) The term "licensing officer," as used in this section, shall mean the judge of probate, commissioner of licenses, or other officer charged with the duty of issuing motor vehicle licenses, boat licenses, and business licenses in Coffee County. (b)(1) The licensing officer may if he or she elects to do so, mail an application for renewal of motor vehicle licenses to whom such license has been previously issued. In addition to any other penalty provided by law, the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency shall suspend for a period of six months the driver's license of any person, including, but not limited to, a juvenile, child, or youthful offender, convicted or adjudicated of, or subjected to a finding of delinquency based on, the crimes specified in Section 13A-12-291.
