Section 45-35-232.34 Houston County Commission authorized to provide funding, in-kind service, or other aid. Houston County through the Houston County Commission is authorized to provide, in its sole discretion, any funding, in-kind service or other aid of any type deemed necessary by the Houston County Commission to the Houston County Work Release and Pretrial Release Commission for the purpose of effectuating the purposes of this subpart. Notwithstanding the foregoing, this act shall not be construed to require Houston County or the Houston County Commission to provide funding, in-kind service, or other aid to the Houston County Work Release and Pretrial Release Commission for the purpose of effectuating the purposes of this subpart. It is the intent of the Legislature that the provisions of this subpart pertaining to pretrial release shall be a guide to judicial officers in Madison County, as defined herein, to insure that no person be needlessly detained in the county because of his or her personal economic circumstances so long as his or her release shall not be contrary to the public interest and also shall serve the purpose of assuring the defendant's presence at the trial. Section 45-45-234 Pistol Permit. (a)(1) In Madison County, the fees for the issuance of a license by the sheriff pursuant to Section 13A-11-75, to authorize a person to carry a pistol in a vehicle or concealed on or about his or her person, at the request of the licensee, shall be as provided below: a. For a regular paper license, the fee shall be ten dollars ($10). b. For an enhanced security license issued in hard plastic and not capable of being easily damaged or altered, the fee shall be twenty dollars ($20). (2) One dollar ($1) of each fee shall be retained and used by the county and the remainder of each fee shall be earmarked for the betterment of law enforcement and shall be available upon requisition by the sheriff for that purpose.
