Section 25-5-1 Definitions. Throughout this chapter, the following words and phrases as used therein shall be considered to have the following meanings, respectively, unless the context shall clearly indicate a different meaning in the connection used: (1) COMPENSATION. The money benefits to be paid on account of injury or death, as provided in Articles 3 and 4. The recovery which an employee may receive by action at law under Article 2 of this chapter is termed "recovery of civil damages," as provided for in Sections 25-5-31 and 25-5-34. "Compensation" does not include medical and surgical treatment and attention, medicine, medical and surgical supplies, and crutches and apparatus furnished an employee on account of an injury. (2) CHILD or CHILDREN. Section 29-1-26 Legislative double dipping prohibited. (a) This section shall be known and may be cited as the Legislative Double Dipping Prohibition Act. (b) Any other provision of law to the contrary notwithstanding, and except as provided in subsection (c), a member of the Legislature, during his or her term of office, may not be an employee of any other branch of state government, any department, agency, board, or commission of the state, or any public educational institution including, but not limited to, a local board of education, a two-year institution of higher education, or a four-year institution of higher education. Section 45-37-123.54 Rehired members. If a member of the system severs employment with the county or his or her term in an elected or appointed job or position terminates, and such member thereafter returns to the service of the county, he or she shall become a member of the system to the extent he or she meets the definition of an eligible employee, subject to the following rules: (1) MEMBER RECEIVING A PENSION BENEFIT.
