Section 14-6A-31 Powers. A regional jail authority shall constitute a public body corporate and politic, exercising public and essential governmental functions and having all the powers necessary or convenient to carry out and effectuate the purposes and provisions of this article and including, but not limited to, the following powers: (1) To sue and be sued in its own name in civil actions, subject to the limitations provided in Chapter 93 of Title 11, and, except as otherwise provided in this article, to defend civil actions against it. (2) To adopt and make use of a corporate seal and to alter the seal at pleasure. (3) To have perpetual succession.
