Section 32-1-1.1 Definitions. The following words and phrases when used in this title, for the purpose of this title, shall have meanings respectively ascribed to them in this section, except when the context otherwise requires: (1) ALLEY. A street or highway intended to provide access to the rear or side of lots or buildings in urban districts and not intended for the purpose of through vehicular traffic. (2) ARTERIAL STREET. Any United States or state numbered route, controlled-access highway, or other major radial or circumferential street or highway designated by local authorities within their respective jurisdictions as part of a major arterial system of streets or highways. (3) AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLE. Such fire department vehicles, police vehicles, and ambulances as are publicly owned, and such other publicly or privately owned vehicles as are designated by the Secretary of the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency or the chief of police of an incorporated city. Section 40-21-86 Responsibilities of utilities. Every person engaged in the State of Alabama in the furnishing of utility services shall add to the price or charge for such utility services to every purchaser thereof an amount equal to the prescribed percentage of the gross price or gross charge therefor and shall collect said amount from every purchaser of such utility services. Section 22-6-191 Legislative intent. The intent of this article is to allow the only PACE provider in the State of Alabama to continue to provide services to nursing home eligible patients as the PACE program provides treatment to patients for fewer federal and state taxpayer dollars than other programs existing in the state. If any person after February 1, 1990 shall engage in or continue in any business for which a tax is imposed by this article, as a condition precedent to engaging or continuing in such business, the person shall apply for and obtain from the Department of Revenue of the State of Alabama a license to engage in and to conduct the business of furnishing cellular telecommunication services for the then current tax year upon the condition that he or she shall pay the taxes accruing to the State of Alabama under the provisions of this article. Section 40-9-19 Homesteads. (a)(1) Homesteads, as defined by the Constitution and laws of Alabama, are exempt from all state ad valorem taxes. In no case shall the exemption apply to more than one person or head of the family, nor shall the exemption exceed $4,000 in assessed value or 160 acres in area for any resident of this state who is not over 65 years of age. Section 45-37-243.40 Levy of tax; payment; violations. (a) This section shall only apply to Jefferson County. (b) As used in this section, state sales tax means the tax imposed by the state sales and use tax statutes, including, but not limited to, Sections 40-23-1, 40-23-2, 40-23-3, and 40-23-4.
