Section 38-9-2 Definitions. For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall have the following meanings: (1) ABUSE. The infliction of physical pain, injury, or the willful deprivation by a caregiver or other person of services necessary to maintain mental and physical health. (2) ADULT IN NEED OF PROTECTIVE SERVICES. A person 18 years of age or older whose behavior indicates that he or she is mentally incapable of adequately caring for himself or herself and his or her interests without serious consequences to himself or herself or others, or who, because of physical or mental impairment, is unable to protect himself or herself from abuse, neglect, exploitation, sexual abuse, or emotional abuse by others, and who has no guardian, relative, or other appropriate person able, willing, and available to assume the kind and degree of protection and supervision required under the circumstances. Section 16-33B-4 Basic powers and duties of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education for the Alabama Guaranteed Student Loan Program. (a) Basic powers. The Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE) is authorized to administer the Alabama Guaranteed Student Loan Program in accordance with the Federal Student Loan Law, and empowered to promulgate such rules, regulations, policies, and procedures as may be reasonable and proper in order to carry out the provisions and purposes of this chapter. Section 22-6-13 Medicaid benefits for county inmates and certain juveniles. (a) For the purposes of this section, the following words have the following meanings: (1) COUNTY INMATE. Any person being held in a public institution under the administrative control and responsibility of the county sheriff and for whom the county is responsible for the provision of medical care. The term includes a person in custody while awaiting arraignment or bond, a pretrial detainee, a convicted person who is awaiting transfer to but has not otherwise become the responsibility of the Department of Corrections, or a person serving his or her sentence in the county jail. Section 30-1-9.1 Requirements for marriage; validity; construction with other laws. (a) On August 29, 2019, and thereafter, the only requirement for a marriage in this state shall be for parties who are otherwise legally authorized to be married to enter into a marriage as provided in this section. However, the judge of probate shall continue to collect the recording fee provided for in subdivision (32) of subsection (b) of Section 12-19-90 for each marriage recorded with the judge of probate. Furthermore, at the time the marriage is recorded, the judge of probate shall also collect the fee provided for in Section 30-6-11, to be distributed as provided in that section.
