Section 36-6-1 "Employee" defined; time of payment of salaries generally. (a) For
the purpose of this section the word "employee" shall be defined as: (1) Everyone
in the classified, exempt, or unclassified service of the state as defined in Section 36-26-10,
(2) Legislative personnel, officers and employees, Legislative Reference Service personnel,
and Legislative Fiscal Office personnel, (3) All court officials and employees of the Unified
Judicial System serving the trial courts, (4) Employees of the Administrative Office of Courts
paid on a biweekly basis, and (5) All hourly personnel who are considered to be permanent
employees. (b) Every state employee whether subject to the state Merit System or not shall

Section 36-27-24 Funds for assets of retirement system - Creation; composition; disposition
of funds; appropriations. (a) Effective October 1, 1997, all the assets of the retirement
system shall be credited according to the purpose for which they are held among three funds,
namely, the Annuity Savings Fund, the Pension Accumulation Fund, and the Expense Fund. The
operation of the former Pension Reserve Fund and the Annuity Reserve Fund shall be discontinued
as of such date and the balance of the former Pension Reserve Fund shall be transferred to

Section 45-37A-51.120 Definitions. (a) The following words, terms, and phrases, wherever used
in this subpart, including this section, shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to
them in this section, unless the context plainly indicates otherwise or that a more restricted

Section 36-26-35 Annual leave. (a) All persons who are regularly employed by the state and
who are subject to the provisions of the state Merit System, and all legislative personnel,
officers, and employees, including, but not limited to, Legislative Services Agency personnel,

Section 45-37-123.01 Definitions. For the purposes of this part, the following terms shall
have the following meanings: (1) ACT. The act adding this part, to be called the General Retirement
System for Employees of Jefferson County Act. (2) ACTIVE MEMBER. An individual who currently
is employed by the county or other entities set forth in subdivision (20) and is making employee
contributions to the system. (3) ACTUARIAL EQUIVALENT. Effective July 30, 1984, or such other

Section 36-26-14 Deferred compensation plans for certain employees. (a) The personnel board
may adopt, establish, and maintain a deferred compensation plan or plans, except under Internal
Revenue Code Section 403 (b), for the employees of the State of Alabama or any city, town,

Section 36-6-6 Certain salaries to be fixed by Governor in accordance with State Personnel
Board recommendations; considerations. (a) Unless otherwise fixed by law, the salaries of
appointed department heads or those otherwise considered members of the Governor's cabinet,
