Section 34-9-60.1 Administration of infiltration anesthesia by dental hygienists; permit requirements. (a) The board may permit licensed dental hygienists to administer infiltration anesthesia under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist. The board may promulgate rules further limiting the administration of infiltration anesthesia by dental hygienists. In order to administer infiltration anesthesia, a dental hygienist shall possess a dental hygiene infiltration anesthesia permit issued by the board. To receive a dental hygiene infiltration anesthesia permit from the board, a dental hygienist shall apply on an application form approved by the board, submit the appropriate application fee, and have been engaged in the active practice of dental hygiene for the 12 months immediately preceding initial application. (a) No person shall practice dentistry or dental hygiene in the State of Alabama unless licensed or permitted by the board and registered annually as required by this chapter. (a) Any person with standing to contest the election under Sections 17-16-40 and 17-16-47 may petition the canvassing authority for a recount of any or all precinct returns. The time period for requesting a recount begins with the production of the certificate of result and ends 48 hours after the official canvass of county returns.
