Section 34-21-20.1 Submission and use of fingerprints for criminal history background check;
costs; confidentiality. (a) Each applicant for a multistate license as a registered nurse
or licensed practical nurse, and each applicant for initial licensure by endorsement as a
registered nurse or licensed practical nurse, shall submit a full set of fingerprints to the
board for the purpose of obtaining a state and national criminal history background check.
(b) Fingerprints obtained pursuant to subsection (a) may be exchanged by the board, the Alabama
State Law Enforcement Agency or any successor entity thereof, or any channeler approved by
the board, with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the purpose of obtaining a state and
national criminal history background check. (c) The applicant or licensee shall be responsible
for all costs associated with the submission of his or her fingerprints and obtaining a state

Section 34-21-23 Renewal of license; continuing education. (a) The license of every professional
nurse licensed under the provisions of this chapter shall be renewed biennially, and the term
of the license shall be two years. Applicants for renewal shall apply for and complete the

Section 16-22-16 Registered nurses required. (a) The State Department of Education and the
Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind shall require the employment of school nurses in each
local school system. (b) There shall not be greater than five licensed practical nurses to
one registered nurse within each school system. However, based upon individual circumstances,

license to practice a classified profession as designated under this article shall be conducted

Section 34-21-124 Additional powers of party state licensing boards. (a) In addition to the
other powers conferred by state law, a licensing board shall have the authority to do all
of the following: (1) Take adverse action against the multistate licensure privilege of a
nurse to practice within that party state. a. Only the home state shall have the power to
