Section 23-6-9 Disposition of bond proceeds; industrial access road and bridge construction account; refunding bonds; contracts for construction, etc., of roads and bridges; performance of work done without contract; property acquired by corporation; roads and bridges constructed to be part of public highway system; appropriation for road and bridge construction. (a) The State Department of Transportation is authorized and empowered and may, with the approval of the Governor provide for a self-insurance program covering a certain amount to be paid to the employees of the State Department of Transportation who may be killed or injured in the line and scope of their employment; provided, that the amount paid to any such party on account of death or injury shall not exceed the amount or amounts as provided by the Workers' Compensation Act of this state.
