Section 27-59-1 Definitions. As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the following meanings: (1) HEALTH BENEFIT PLAN. Any individual or group plan, employee welfare benefit plan, policy, or contract for health care services issued, delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed in this state by a health care insurer, health maintenance organization, accident and sickness insurer, fraternal benefit society, nonprofit hospital service corporation, nonprofit medical service corporation, health care service plan, or any other person, firm, corporation, joint venture, or other similar business entity that pays for insureds or beneficiaries in this state. The term includes, but is not limited to, entities created pursuant to Article 6 of Chapter 20 of Title 10A. (a) All new institutional health services which are subject to this article and which are proposed to be offered or developed within the state shall be subject to review under this article. No institutional health services which are subject to this article shall be permitted which are inconsistent with the State Health Plan. Section 27-36A-20 Small company alternative valuation. (a) A company calculating reserves under this section shall calculate reserves for ordinary life insurance, accident and health insurance contracts, credit life contracts, group life contracts, annuities, or deposit-type contracts in this state as if the policies were issued before the operative date of the valuation manual. For such policies issued after the operative date of the valuation manual, any mortality and interest rates defined by the valuation manual for net premium reserves shall be used.
