Section 16-6G-7 Alabama Committee on Grade Level Reading. (a) The State Superintendent of Education shall establish the Alabama Committee on Grade Level Reading. The committee shall consist of three members appointed from each State Board of Education district. The Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate shall each appoint one member from each district. The appointing authorities shall coordinate their appointments so that diversity of gender, race, and geographical areas is reflective of the makeup of this state. Section 28-11-3 Minors enlisted to help board enforce state and federal laws. The board, in conjunction with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, shall enforce state and federal laws that prohibit the distribution of tobacco or tobacco products to minors. It is the legislative intent to implement an effective statewide bicycle safety education program to reduce disability and death resulting from improper or unsafe bicycle operation. Violations of Section 32-5A-283 shall be handled in the following manner: (1) On the first offense, the police officer shall counsel and provide written information to the child relative to bicycle helmet safety. In Limestone County, the county board of education, upon recommendation of the county superintendent of education, may substitute other books or texts for use in the county schools under its jurisdiction for the textbooks on the list of state-approved or state-adopted textbooks prescribed by the State Board of Education.
