Section 13A-6-193 Elder abuse and neglect - Second degree. (a) A person commits the crime of
elder abuse and neglect in the second degree if he or she does any of the following: (1) Intentionally
abuses or neglects any elderly person and the abuse or neglect causes physical injury to the

Section 38-9-2 Definitions. For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall have
the following meanings: (1) ABUSE. The infliction of physical pain, injury, or the willful
deprivation by a caregiver or other person of services necessary to maintain mental and physical

Section 38-9-7 Violations; penalties. (a) It shall be unlawful for any person to abuse, neglect,
exploit, or emotionally abuse any protected person. For purposes of this section, residence
in a nursing home, mental institution, developmental center for people with an intellectual
