Section 13A-10-5.1 Disarming a law enforcement or corrections officer (a) A person commits the crime of disarming a law enforcement or corrections officer if the person intentionally removes a firearm or weapon from a law enforcement or corrections officer or deprives a law enforcement or corrections officer of the use of a firearm or weapon when the officer is acting within the scope of his or her duties and the person knows or reasonably should have known that the individual is a law enforcement or corrections officer. (a) No person who has been convicted in this state or elsewhere of committing or attempting to commit a crime of violence, misdemeanor offense of domestic violence, violent offense as listed in Section 12-25-32(15), anyone who is subject to a valid protection order for domestic abuse, or anyone of unsound mind shall own a firearm or have one in his or her possession or under his or her control.
