Section 11-88-51 Levy of assessments for cost of improvement on abutting or benefited property
authorized. If any such improvement be finally ordered and constructed, the board shall have
power, after the completion and acceptance thereof, to assess the cost of constructing the
said improvement or any part thereof upon or against the property abutting on any street,
avenue, alley, highway, or other public place so served or drained or against the property
drained, served, or benefited by such improvement to the extent of the increased value of
such property by reason of the special benefits derived from such improvement. An authority

Section 17-4-6.1 Investigation of registered voter reported to be deceased or a nonresident
of the precinct. (a) To facilitate the continuous maintenance of the computerized statewide
voter registration list, each county board of registrars shall investigate written reports
from a family member of an elector, the inspector of an election precinct, the judge of probate,
the sheriff, and the clerk of the circuit court that an elector registered to vote in a precinct
has died or become a nonresident of the precinct in which he or she is registered to vote.
The inspector, judge of probate, sheriff, or clerk of the circuit court shall provide the

Section 12-14-71 Appeals from judgments of circuit courts and proceedings thereon. From the
judgment of the circuit court, the municipality, in a case holding invalid an ordinance, or
the defendant in any case, may appeal to the court of criminal appeals in like manner as in
cases of appeals for convictions of violation of the criminal laws of the state. If the appeal
is taken by the municipality, it shall not be required to give surety for the cost of appeal.
When taken by the defendant, he may give bail with sufficient sureties, conditioned that he
will appear and abide by the judgment of the appellate court; and, failing to give bail, he

serving a sentence in the penitentiary or to hard labor for the county is necessary in any
