Section 11-49B-22 Taxes; exemptions; reporting credit sales; lien security; state sales tax provisions applicable; charge for collecting tax; voting. (a) The authority shall, subject to a referendum in the counties it proposes to serve, levy, in addition to all other taxes, including, but not limited to, municipal gross receipts license taxes, a 1/4 percent privilege license tax against gross sales or gross receipts, provided, however, that the rate of such tax on any person, firm, or corporation engaged in the type of business described in Section 40-23-2(4) shall be an amount equal to 1/32 percent of the gross proceeds from sales described in such section. The gross receipts of any business and the gross proceeds of all sales which are presently exempt under the state sales and use tax statutes are exempt from the tax authorized by this chapter. Section 40-12-253 Ad valorem taxation of motor vehicles. (a) Effective January 1, 2000, ad valorem taxes on motor vehicles shall be assessed and the tax collected forward on a current basis to coincide with the collection of motor vehicle license taxes and registration fees. (1) Ad valorem taxes on motor vehicles shall become due and payable on the first day of the registration renewal month of the owner, the date the motor vehicle enters the State of Alabama, the date the motor vehicle is removed from the inventory of a dealer, or the date on which the motor vehicle is otherwise determined to be taxable, whichever comes first. (a) The Revenue Commissioner of Choctaw County shall perform all duties relative to the assessment and collection of taxes on motor vehicles, motor vehicle titles, and nonmotorized vehicles in Choctaw County which the judge of probate is required under the law to perform. The judge of probate shall be relieved of all duties and responsibilities relative to the assessment and collection of taxes on motor vehicles, motor vehicle titles, and nonmotorized vehicles, and the revenue commissioner shall have all the duties and responsibilities relative to the assessment and collection of taxes and issuance of motor vehicle licenses and titles for motorized and non-motorized vehicles.
