Section 45-46-70.02 Powers and authority of board. The board of revenue shall have the power
and authority to direct and control the property of Marengo County as it may deem expedient,
according to law, and to levy a tax for general purposes and special taxes for particular
county purposes, according to the laws of Alabama; to examine, settle, and allow accounts
and claims chargeable against the county; to audit and settle the accounts of all officers

Section 40-23-35 Disposition of revenues from tax. (a) Such amount of money as shall be appropriated
for each fiscal year by the Legislature to the Department of Revenue with which to pay the
salaries, the cost of operation and management of the department shall be deducted, as a first
charge thereon, from the taxes collected under the provisions of this division; provided,
that the expenditure of the sum so appropriated shall be budgeted and allotted pursuant to
Article 4 of Chapter 4 of Title 41, and limited to the amount appropriated to defray the expenses

State Board of Education. (b)(1) The Department of Revenue shall issue a certificate of exemption
to the governmental entity for each tax exempt project. (2) The Department of Revenue shall
grant a certificate of exemption from state and local sales and use taxes to any contractor
licensed by the State Licensing Board for General Contractors, or any subcontractor working
under the same contract, for the purchase of building materials, construction materials and
supplies, and other tangible personal property that becomes part of the structure that
is the subject of a written contract for the construction of a building or other project,
not to include any contract for the construction of any highway, road, or bridge, for and
on behalf of a governmental entity which is exempt from the payment of sales and use taxes.
