Section 45-37-244.02 Jefferson County Entity Business License Tax. (a) This section shall apply only to Jefferson County. (b) As used in this section, the following words and terms shall have the meanings ascribed to them: (1) BUSINESS ACTIVITY. The carrying on or practice of any business, vocation, occupation, work, calling, or profession for profit. (2) BUSINESS ENTITY. A person engaged in one or more business activities, other than an individual. (3) COUNTY. Jefferson County. (4) GOVERNING BODY. The Jefferson County Commission. (5) INDIVIDUAL. A natural person other than a sole proprietor. (6) PERSON. Any corporation, partnership, company, association, unincorporated organization, or other entity formed to engage in business activity. (a) Any residential home builder who desires to receive a new or renewal license under this chapter shall make and file with the board 30 days prior to the next meeting of the board a written application on a form prescribed by the board. To prevent motor vehicles from escaping taxation and to provide for a more efficient procedure for assessment and collection of taxes due on same, no licenses shall be issued to operate motor vehicles on the public highways of this state, nor shall any transfer be made by the judge of probate until, the ad valorem tax on such vehicles shall have been paid to the county for the preceding year as evidenced by receipt from the judge of probate.
