Section 8-6-57 Deputy director. (a) With the approval of the Securities Commission and subject to the provisions of the Merit System law, the director thereof may designate a deputy director, who shall possess qualifications fixed by the commission with the approval of the personnel department, and who shall perform such duties as the director shall designate. (b) In the absence of the director or his inability to act, the deputy director shall perform such duties as are required to be performed by the director. (c) The compensation of the deputy director shall be fixed by the commission, subject to the approval of the personnel department, in the salary range payable to attorneys in the Merit System classification of Attorney IV. Section 40-2B-2 Alabama Tax Tribunal. (a) Statement of Purpose. To increase public confidence in the fairness of the state tax system, the state shall provide an independent agency with tax expertise to resolve disputes between the Department of Revenue and taxpayers, prior to requiring the payment of the amounts in issue or the posting of a bond, but after the taxpayer has had a full opportunity to attempt settlement with the Department of Revenue based, among other things, on the hazards of litigation. Section 45-49-120.07 Personnel director. The board shall elect and fix the salary of the director who shall hold office at the will of the board. The board shall prescribe qualifications as to residence, education, and experience as may be necessary in its opinion to fill the position of director. The director, as executive head of the department, shall direct and supervise all its administrative and technical activities.
