Section 5-22-2 Definitions. For the purpose of this chapter, the following terms shall have
the meanings ascribed by this section: (1) CURRENCY. Currency and coin of the United States.
(2) FINANCIAL INSTITUTION. Any national bank or banking association, state bank or banking
association, industrial savings bank, trust company, federal savings and loan association,
state savings and loan association, federal savings bank, state savings bank, federal credit
union, state credit union, Edge Act or agreement corporation, or international bank agency,

Section 5-19A-2 Definitions. The following words and phrases shall have the following meanings:
(1) APPROPRIATE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY. The sheriff of each county in which the pawnbroker
maintains an office, or the police chief of the municipality in which the pawnbroker maintains
an office. (2) ATTORNEY GENERAL. The Attorney General of the State of Alabama. (3) PAWN TRANSACTION.
Any loan on the security of pledged goods or any purchase of pledged goods on condition that

Section 27-40-2 Exemptions from chapter. The provisions of this chapter shall not apply with
respect to any of the following: (1) Any insurance company licensed to do business in this
state. (2) Any banking or other financial institution regulated by the state, or savings and
loan association, or credit union authorized to do business in this state, or any national
banking institution or federal savings and loan association incorporated under the laws of
the United States and located within this state. (3) A charge for insurance in connection
with an installment sale of a motor vehicle or boat or mobile home. (4) The financing of insurance

Section 5-26-3 Definitions. For purposes of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply:
(1) DEPOSITORY INSTITUTION. The term "depository institution" has the same meaning
as in Section 3 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act, and includes any credit union. (2) FEDERAL
BANKING AGENCIES. The term "federal banking agencies" means the Board of Governors

Section 8-6-2 Definitions. When used in this article, unless the context otherwise requires,
the following terms shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them by this section:
