Section 9-16-72 Definitions. The following words and phrases, unless a different meaning is
plainly required by the context, shall have the following meanings: (1) APPLICANT. Any person
or legal entity who or which applied for a license or a permit to engage in surface coal mining
operations. (2) APPROXIMATE ORIGINAL CONTOUR. That surface configuration achieved by filling
and grading of the mined area so that the reclaimed area, including any terracing or access
roads, closely resembles the general surface configuration of the land prior to mining and
blends into and complements the drainage pattern of the surrounding terrain, with all high
walls and spoil piles eliminated; water impoundments may be permitted where the commission
determines that they are in compliance with this article. (3) COAL BROKER and COAL SALES AGENCY.

Section 8-17-80 Definitions. (a) The following words and phrases, when used in this article,
shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly
indicates a different meaning: (1) AVIATION GASOLINE. Motor fuel designed for use in the operation

Section 8-7A-2 Definitions. For purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall have the

Section 40-12-253 Ad valorem taxation of motor vehicles. (a) Effective January 1, 2000, ad
valorem taxes on motor vehicles shall be assessed and the tax collected forward on a current
basis to coincide with the collection of motor vehicle license taxes and registration fees.
(1) Ad valorem taxes on motor vehicles shall become due and payable on the first day of the
registration renewal month of the owner, the date the motor vehicle enters the State of Alabama,
the date the motor vehicle is removed from the inventory of a dealer, or the date on which

Section 40-12-312 Application for license. Any person, firm, corporation, association, or copartnership
desiring to operate, maintain, open, or establish one or more stores in this state shall apply
to the probate judge or license commissioner for a license to do so. The application for a
license shall be made on a form which shall be prescribed and furnished by the Department
of Revenue and shall set forth the name of the owner, manager, lessee, receiver, or other
