Section 37-6-3 Enumerated powers. A cooperative shall have the power: (1) To sue and be sued in its corporate name. (2) To adopt a corporate seal and alter the same at its pleasure. (3) To generate, manufacture, purchase, acquire and transmit electric energy and to distribute, sell, supply and dispose of electric energy to its members, to governmental agencies and political subdivisions and to other persons; provided, however, that should a cooperative acquire any electric facilities dedicated or devoted to the public use, it may continue to serve the persons served directly from such facilities at the time of such acquisition without requiring that such persons become members, and, provided further, that such nonmembers shall have the right to become members upon nondiscriminatory terms. Section 36-25-1 Definitions. Whenever used in this chapter, the following words and terms shall have the following meanings: (1) BUSINESS. Any corporation, partnership, proprietorship, firm, enterprise, franchise, association, organization, self-employed individual, or any other legal entity. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the head of each department or independent establishment in the state government shall grant, under regulations prescribed by the State Personnel Board, to employees under their respective jurisdictions, to the extent compatible with the exigencies of the public business and the performance of essential services, time off from duty (without charge to any leave otherwise authorized by law and without loss of compensation and other employee benefits) to comply with religious obligations prescribed by religious denominations of which such employees are bona fide members. (a) The county commissions of several counties and the governing authorities of municipalities are hereby authorized to cooperate with the State Board of Pardons and Paroles in the establishment of restitution centers.
