Section 37-11A-1 Execution and text of compact. The Governor, on behalf of this state, shall execute a compact, in substantially the following form, with the State of Mississippi, and the Legislature approves and ratifies the compact in the form substantially as follows: Northeast Mississippi - Northwest Alabama Railroad Authority Compact. The contracting states solemnly agree: Article I. The purpose of this compact is to promote and develop trade, commerce, industry, and employment opportunities for the public good and welfare in northeast Mississippi and northwest Alabama through the establishment of a joint interstate authority to acquire certain railroad properties and facilities which the operator thereof has notified the Interstate Commerce Commission of an intention to abandon and which are located in any of Franklin, Marion, or Winston Counties, Alabama or in Alcorn or Tishomingo Counties, Mississippi. Section 40-9B-3 Definitions. (a) For purposes of this chapter, the following words and phrases mean: (1) ABATE, ABATEMENT. A reduction or elimination of a taxpayer's liability for tax or payments required to be made in lieu thereof. Section 45-37-40.02 Barber commission. (a) There shall be a barber commission for the county consisting of three members, one of whom shall be black, herein at times referred to as the commission. In availing itself of the powers conferred by this chapter, the county commission shall provide for the appointment of a board of adjustment and may provide that the said board of adjustment shall, in appropriate cases and subject to appropriate conditions and safeguards, make special exceptions to the terms of the zoning ordinance or regulations in harmony with its general purposes and interests and in accordance with general or specific rules adopted pursuant to this chapter. (a) A voter shall be required to cast a provisional ballot when: (1) The name of the individual does not appear on the official list of eligible voters for the precinct or polling place in which the individual seeks to vote, and the individual's registration cannot be verified while at the polling place by the registrar or the judge of probate.
