Section 12-18-133 Purchase of additional credit. Any justice of the Supreme Court, judge of the Court of Civil Appeals, judge of the Court of Criminal Appeals, circuit judge, or district judge who has 24 years of creditable service in the Judicial Retirement Fund of Alabama may elect to purchase credit in the Judicial Retirement Fund of Alabama for up to one additional year. Any justice or judge eligible to purchase such credit shall be awarded such credit provided that the justice or judge shall pay into the Judicial Retirement Fund of Alabama a sum of money which is equal to the annual contribution of both the justice or judge and the annual contribution of the state into the fund at the time of election to purchase the credit multiplied by each year or fraction thereof of service credit claimed.
