Section 45-7-70 Membership; salaries. (a) The Butler County Commission shall be composed of five members, elected from single-member districts one through five, inclusive, by the qualified voters residing within each district. The five districts shall be apportioned as provided by law. Unless otherwise provided by general law, each commissioner shall reside in the district he or she represents at the time of qualifying for office and during his or her tenure. For the purposes of establishing staggered terms for the members of the county commission, the members of the commission elected to represent districts two and three elected at the general election in 2020 shall serve a term of two years, and beginning with the general election in 2022 and each subsequent general election thereafter, shall serve a term of four years.
