Section 15-18-171 Definitions. As used in this article, the following terms shall have the following meanings, respectively, unless the context otherwise requires: (1) APPLICATION PROCESS AND PROCEDURES. The criteria and guidelines developed by the Department of Corrections for the establishment of community punishment and corrections programs, the granting of funds for programs authorized herein, and the monitoring, evaluation, and review of programs funded herein. (2) BOARD. The board of directors of the authority or the board of directors of a nonprofit entity. (3) COMMISSIONER. The Commissioner of the Department of Corrections. (4) COMMUNITY. The county or counties comprising one or more judicial circuits. (5) COMMUNITY PUNISHMENT AND CORRECTIONS AUTHORITY. A public corporation organized pursuant to the provisions of this article. Section 34-8-7 Exemptions from chapter; subcontractor requirements. (a) The following shall be exempted from this chapter: (1) The practice of general contracting, as defined in Section 34-8-1, by an authorized representative or representatives of the United States Government, State of Alabama, incorporated town, city, or county in this state, which is under the supervision of a licensed architect or engineer provided any work contracted out by the representative shall comply with the provisions of this chapter for general contractor. Section 40-2B-2 Alabama Tax Tribunal. (a) Statement of Purpose. To increase public confidence in the fairness of the state tax system, the state shall provide an independent agency with tax expertise to resolve disputes between the Department of Revenue and taxpayers, prior to requiring the payment of the amounts in issue or the posting of a bond, but after the taxpayer has had a full opportunity to attempt settlement with the Department of Revenue based, among other things, on the hazards of litigation.
