Section 45-49A-80.01 Vacancies. Whenever a vacancy occurs in the office of mayor in the City
of Prichard in Mobile County, Alabama, with six months or more remaining in the vacating mayor's
term, the president of the city council shall immediately instruct the city clerk to provide
for holding a special election to fill such vacancy with such election to be held no later
than 60 days after such office has become vacant. Such election shall be held in the manner
prescribed by law and the person elected to the office of mayor in such special election shall
serve for the remainder of the unexpired term. In the event such vacancy occurs during the
last six months of a mayor's term, the president of the city council shall succeed to the

Section 11-44B-8 Temporary and permanent vacancies in office of mayor; vacancy on city council.
(a) Temporary Vacancy in the Office of Mayor. The council shall elect from its members, a
president pro tempore of the council. In the case of the temporary absence of the mayor or
his inability to serve temporarily on account of sickness or any other good reason, the president
pro tempore of the council shall act as mayor pro tempore with the power and authority of
the mayor during such time. Provided; however, the president pro tempore while acting as mayor
pro tempore shall not exercise the mayor's right to vote nor the right of approval or veto

Section 11-43C-36 Mayor - Vacancies; acting mayor; special election to fill vacancy; term of
office. Whenever any vacancy in the office of mayor shall occur by reason of death, resignation,
removal or any other cause, the president of the council shall assume the duties of the office
