Section 16-25-140 Increase in benefits to members and beneficiaries. (a) Commencing October 1, 2000, there is provided an increase in benefits to each person currently receiving benefits whose effective date of retirement was prior to October 1, 2000, for purposes of receiving benefits, and to certain beneficiaries of deceased members and deceased retirees currently receiving survivor benefits, if the effective date of retirement or death for the deceased retiree or deceased member was prior to October 1, 2000, for purposes of receiving benefits from the Teachers' Retirement System, a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) of four percent of the current gross benefit. (a) Beginning October 1, 2005, each member of the Lee County Board of Registrars shall receive thirty-five dollars ($35) per day from the county in addition to any compensation received from the state. (a) The personnel board may adopt, establish, and maintain a deferred compensation plan or plans, except under Internal Revenue Code Section 403 (b), for the employees of the State of Alabama or any city, town, county, or public entity or corporation organized pursuant to the laws of this state. Section 40-9-19 Homesteads. (a)(1) Homesteads, as defined by the Constitution and laws of Alabama, are exempt from all state ad valorem taxes.
