Section 45-49-120.18 Working test period. (a) Entry level or initial employment, or both. (1)
Every person appointed to an initial position with each jurisdiction for entry into the classified
service is a probationary employee with that jurisdiction, and shall be tested by a working
test while occupying the position. The period of the working test shall commence immediately
upon appointment and shall continue for such time, not less than six months, as shall be established
by the director. At times during the working test period, and in the manner as the director
may require, the appointing authority shall report to the director his or her observation
of the employee's work, and his or her judgment as to the employee's willingness and ability
to perform his or her duties satisfactorily, and as to his or her habits and dependability.

Section 36-26-17 Manner of filling of vacancies in classified service generally; appointments
in classified service generally. Vacancies in the classified service shall be filled either
by transfer, promotion, appointment, reappointment or demotion. Whenever a vacancy is to be
filled by appointment, the appointing authority shall submit to the director a statement of
the title of the position and, if requested by the director to do so, the duties of the position
and desirable qualifications of the person to be appointed and a request that the director

Section 45-35A-51.26 Certification of payrolls. (a) It shall be unlawful for any city official,
employee, or other officer to pay or cause to be paid any salary or compensation to any person
in the classified service of the city, for personal services, unless the payroll estimate,
voucher, or account, for such compensation, containing the name of the persons to be paid,
shall bear the certification of such persons' department head or appointing authority that

Section 45-35A-51.12 Tests. (a) General. The director shall prepare and conduct tests for the
purpose of enabling him or her to establish employment registers for the various classes of
