Section 45-49-242.22 Additional tax for public school purposes. (a) The following words and phrases shall have the following meanings: (1) AMENDMENT 3. Section 14-6-42 Payments for services; recordkeeping. (a) Food and the services for preparing food, serving food, and other services incident to the feeding of prisoners in the county jail shall be paid for by the state in the amount of two dollars and twenty-five cents ($2.25) per day for each prisoner. (b) Payments made by the state pursuant to this section to the office of the sheriff shall be deposited in a separate account designated the Prisoner Feeding Fund established in Section 14-6-47. The sheriff shall maintain records of all payments received and all expenditures made from the Prisoner Feeding Fund, which shall be subject to regular audit by the Department of Examiners of Public Accounts. Section 45-14-242.02 Levy and payment of tax. (a) The county commission may levy, in addition to all other taxes imposed by law, an excise tax on persons selling, distributing, storing, or withdrawing from storage for any purpose whatever, gasoline or motor fuel within the county at a rate not to exceed two cents ($.02) per gallon, and require every distributor, retail dealer, or storer of gasoline or motor fuel to pay the excise tax upon the selling, distributing, or withdrawing from storage for any use, gasoline or motor fuel in the county. The excise tax levied pursuant to this part shall not be levied upon the sale of gasoline or motor fuel in interstate commerce.
