Section 25-5-1 Definitions. Throughout this chapter, the following words and phrases as used therein shall be considered to have the following meanings, respectively, unless the context shall clearly indicate a different meaning in the connection used: (1) COMPENSATION. The money benefits to be paid on account of injury or death, as provided in Articles 3 and 4. The recovery which an employee may receive by action at law under Article 2 of this chapter is termed "recovery of civil damages," as provided for in Sections 25-5-31 and 25-5-34. "Compensation" does not include medical and surgical treatment and attention, medicine, medical and surgical supplies, and crutches and apparatus furnished an employee on account of an injury. To prevent motor vehicles from escaping taxation and to provide for a more efficient procedure for the assessment and collection of taxes due, the tax assessor shall not issue any license to operate a motor vehicle on the public highways of this state, nor shall any transfer of a motor vehicle be made by the tax assessor until the tax assessor is provided satisfactory evidence that the ad valorem tax on the vehicle for the preceding year has been paid. Section 45-27-244.35 Certificate of assessment; issuance of license tag; valuation; municipal taxes. (a) Every person, firm, or corporation residing in or owning a motor vehicle which is principally used in Escambia County who desires to operate a motor vehicle on the public highways of Alabama shall first return the motor vehicle for ad valorem taxation and sales taxation to the tax collector.
