Section 11-49B-22 Taxes; exemptions; reporting credit sales; lien security; state sales tax provisions applicable; charge for collecting tax; voting. (a) The authority shall, subject to a referendum in the counties it proposes to serve, levy, in addition to all other taxes, including, but not limited to, municipal gross receipts license taxes, a 1/4 percent privilege license tax against gross sales or gross receipts, provided, however, that the rate of such tax on any person, firm, or corporation engaged in the type of business described in Section 40-23-2(4) shall be an amount equal to 1/32 percent of the gross proceeds from sales described in such section. (a) All fees, commissions, taxes, and other monies, including fines and forfeitures, received under this part shall be paid to the treasurer of the racing commission. (a)(1) An individual taxpayer who files a state income tax return and is not claimed as a dependent of another taxpayer, a taxpayer subject to the corporate income tax levied by Chapter 18 of Title 40, an Alabama S corporation as defined in Section 40-18-160, or a Subchapter K entity as defined in Section 40-18-1 may claim a credit for a contribution made to a scholarship granting organization. (a) Effective January 1, 2000, ad valorem taxes on motor vehicles shall be assessed and the tax collected forward on a current basis to coincide with the collection of motor vehicle license taxes and registration fees.
