Section 20-2-60 Definitions. As used in this article the following words shall have the following meanings: (1) ADMINISTER. The direct application of a controlled substance, whether by injection, inhalation, ingestion, or any other means, to the body of a patient by any of the following: a. A supervising physician, or, in his or her presence, his or her authorized agent. b. An assistant to physician. c. The patient at the direction and in the presence of the supervising physician or assistant to physician. (2) ASSISTANT TO PHYSICIAN. Any person who is a graduate of an approved program, is licensed by the board, and is registered by the board to perform medical services under the supervision of a physician approved by the board to supervise an assistant to physician. Section 34-16-7 Exemptions. The following persons shall be exempt from licensure or permitting pursuant to this chapter: (1) Any student who is enrolled in a formal American sign language program, a formal interpreter training program, or a formal interpreter or transliterator internship program. The student shall be allowed to interpret or transliterate as part of his or her training for a maximum of 16 weeks in an educational setting or 120 hours in an agency or business. (2) Any person who interprets or transliterates solely in a church, synagogue, temple, or other religious setting. Section 34-14C-6 Denial, suspension, or revocation of license; hearing; notice, penalties; appeal. (a) The board may deny, suspend, or revoke a license as provided in this section. Section 34-14C-4 Licensure; inspections. (a) Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, a home medical equipment services provider shall be licensed annually by the board before the provider may engage in the provision of home medical equipment services. In Alabama, when a single business entity provides home medical equipment services from more than one location within the state, each such location shall be licensed. A provider of home medical equipment services that has a principal place of business outside this state shall maintain at least one physical location within this state, each of which shall be licensed.
