Section 45-17-91.20 Definitions. The following words and phrases used in this subpart shall, in the absence of clear implication herein otherwise, be given the following respective interpretations herein: (1) AUTHORITY. The Shoals Economic Development Authority, an agency or instrumentality of Colbert County and Lauderdale County created pursuant to subpart 1 and Act 95-409, and includes its successors and assigns, if any, and any agency or instrumentality that may succeed to its functions. (2) CODE. The Code of Alabama 1975, and all amendments thereto. (3) COMMITTEE. The Shoals Industrial Development Committee created pursuant to this subpart. (4) COUNTIES. Section 45-11-246.01 Levy of tax authorized. (a) The Chilton County Commission, upon a majority vote of the members and in addition to all other taxes, may levy a sales and use tax in an amount up to one percent on sales, use, storage, consumption, or gross receipts in the county and, in addition, may levy a sales and use tax in the amount of up to two percent on sales, use, storage, consumption, or gross receipts outside of the corporate limits of the City of Clanton, the City of Jemison, the Town of Maplesville, and the Town of Thorsby. In addition to all other taxes imposed by law, the Elmore County Commission may levy a privilege or license tax in the amount prescribed in this section against every person within the county engaging in the business of renting or furnishing a room or rooms, lodging, or accommodations, to a transient in a hotel, motel, inn, condominium, house, tourist court, or another place in which rooms, lodgings, or accommodations are regularly furnished to transients for a consideration.
