Section 23-5-2 Driving around, destruction, etc., of detour or warning sign, or barricade or fence. (a) For the purposes of this section, the following terms shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them by this subsection: (1) DETOUR SIGN. Any sign placed across or on a public road of the state by the state, the county or municipal authorities, or by their contractors, indicating that such road is closed or partially closed, which sign also indicates the direction of an alternate route to be followed to give access to certain points. (2) WARNING SIGN. A sign indicating construction work in area. (3) BARRICADE. A barrier for obstructing the passage of motor vehicle traffic. (4) FENCE. Section 32-7A-12 Suspension of registration. (a) The department shall suspend the vehicle registration of any motor vehicle determined to be in violation of Section 32-7A-4, including any motor vehicle operated in violation of Section 32-7A-16 by an operator other than the owner of the vehicle. Neither the fact that, subsequent to the date of verification or violation, the owner acquired the required liability insurance policy nor the fact that the owner terminated ownership of the motor vehicle shall have any bearing upon the required suspension.
