Section 22-27-2 Definitions. For the purpose of this article, the following terms shall have
the meanings respectively ascribed to them by this section: (1) AGENCY. Any controlling agency,
public or private, elected, appointed, or volunteer utilizing methods approved by the health
department or the department for the purpose of controlling and supervising the collection
or management of solid wastes or recyclable materials. (2) ALTERNATIVE COVER. Material other
than earth used to cover a landfill or sanitary landfill. An alternative cover shall be approved
by the Department of Environmental Management in compliance with federal law and United States
Environmental Protection Agency rules or guidance to achieve a level of performance equal

Section 25-4-10 Employment. (a) Subject to other provisions of this chapter, "employment"
means: (1) Any service performed prior to January 1, 1978, which was employment as defined
in this section prior to such date and, subject to the other provisions of this section, services

Section 40-9B-3 Definitions. (a) For purposes of this chapter, the following words and phrases
mean: (1) ABATE, ABATEMENT. A reduction or elimination of a taxpayer's liability for tax or
payments required to be made in lieu thereof. An abatement of transaction taxes imposed under

Section 11-42-186 Partial annexation - Payment of proportionate share of bonded indebtedness
for municipal improvements by expanded municipality. Should the city or town so altering or
rearranging its boundary lines absorb or annex any part of another city or town, the city
or town so altering or rearranging its boundary lines shall assume and pay the proportionate
share of the bonded indebtedness of the city or town from which said territory is taken that
the cost of the municipal improvements in such territory taken from such city or town bears
to the whole cost of municipal improvements made in the whole of the city or town from which

Section 11-54B-16 District management corporation contracts. The municipality may, by ordinance,
authorize the district management corporation to contract work to be done on any street or
streets, or on other municipal property, included in the self-help business improvement district.

when city assumes control of schools. When a municipality under the jurisdiction of a county
board of education attains a population of 5,000 or more, according to the last decennial
