Section 45-37-123.53 Conversion of unpaid membership time to paid membership time. (a) Commission-authorized conversions. The commission, from time to time, may authorize members of the system to convert unpaid membership time to paid membership time if it determines that such conversion is in the public interest. Unpaid membership time may be converted to paid membership time only when specifically authorized by the commission, and as set forth below: (b) Pension board authorized conversions. The pension board, from time to time, may authorize members of the system to convert unpaid membership time to paid membership time if it determines that the conversion is in the best interest of the system. Section 45-37-123.103 Death benefits. (a) Preretirement death benefits. A vested member's beneficiary is entitled to a preretirement joint survivorship pension, as described below. (a) As used in this section, the following words shall have the following meanings: (1) HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT or HSA. Section 45-37-123.131 Maximum annual benefit. (a) Notwithstanding the foregoing and subject to the exceptions and adjustments below, effective for limitation years ending after December 31, 2001, the annual benefit otherwise payable to a member under the plan at any time shall not exceed the maximum annual benefit, and if the benefit a member would otherwise accrue in a limitation year would produce an annual benefit in excess of the maximum annual benefit, the benefit shall be limited, or the rate of accrual reduced, to a benefit that does not exceed the maximum annual benefit.
