Section 45-18-82.20 Assessment and collection of motor vehicle taxes. The Judge of Probate of Conecuh County shall perform all duties relative to the assessment and collection of taxes on motor vehicles, and the issuance of motor vehicle tags and titles in Conecuh County which the revenue commissioner is required under the law to perform. The judge of probate shall continue to perform the issuance of tags and the collection of sales tax as required by law. The revenue commissioner shall be relieved of all duties and responsibilities relative to the assessment and collection of taxes. For the purposes of this subpart, the term "motor vehicle" shall mean the same as defined in Article 5, commencing with Section 40-12-240, Chapter 12, Title 40, and in subdivision (4) of Section 32-7-2. Section 45-27-244.03 Payment and receipt of taxes and fees. The owner of the motor vehicle shall, if he or she is still the owner of the motor vehicle and if he or she desires to pay his or her motor vehicle ad valorem taxes and license tax and secure his or her motor vehicle registration tag or decal by mail, sign the application form, indicating thereon any necessary change of address, and return the same by mail together with his or her remittance for ad valorem taxes, license taxes, and fees as shown thereon to the judge of probate. Money orders or checks for the payment of such taxes and fees shall be made payable to the judge of probate. (a) In Jackson County, the fee for issuance of a permit to carry a pistol in a vehicle or concealed on or about the person as provided in Section 13A-11-75, shall be fifteen dollars ($15), which shall be collected by the sheriff and deposited into the Sheriff's Law Enforcement Fund. Section 8-20-7.1 Compensation of dealers for recall repairs. (a) For the purposes of this section, the following words have the following meanings: (1) MANUFACTURER. A manufacturer, distributor or wholesaler, factory branch, or distributor branch. (2) STOP-SALE ORDER. A notification issued by a manufacturer to its franchised new motor vehicle dealers stating that certain used vehicles in inventory shall not be sold or leased, at either retail or wholesale, due to a federal safety recall for a defect or a noncompliance, or a federal emissions recall.
