Section 45-37A-56 Zoning board of adjustment. (a) The governing body of any city which may now or hereafter have a population of 300,000 inhabitants or more, according to the last or any subsequent federal census and which may now or hereafter have in force and effect a comprehensive zoning ordinance shall provide for the appointment of a zoning board of adjustment and in the zoning regulations and restrictions adopted by the city pursuant to the authority of the laws of this state, provide that the zoning board of adjustment, in appropriate cases and subject to appropriate conditions and safeguards, shall make special exceptions to the terms of the zoning ordinance of the city in harmony with its general purpose and intent, and in accordance with general or specific rules therein contained. (a) Charges may be filed by any resident of the county as follows: The charges shall be in writing, shall set forth succinctly the matter or matters complained of, and shall be sworn to before any member of the board or before any person authorized to administer oaths. (a)(1) The State Board of Medical Examiners on its own motion may investigate any evidence which appears to show that a physician or osteopath holding a certificate of qualification to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of Alabama is or may be guilty of any of the acts, offenses, or conditions set out in Section 34-24-360. As part of its investigation, the board may require a criminal history background check of the physician or osteopath. Section 28-3-186 Penalties for failure to pay taxes collected, execution issued for unpaid taxes, etc. (a) Every wholesaler licensee collecting taxes on malt or brewed beverages levied by this article shall timely pay the same to the board as provided in this article.
