Section 45-46-230 Deputies; clerical staff and jail personnel. (a) The composition of the Sheriff's Department of Marengo County shall include no less than five deputies and one chief deputy; and any increase in deputy personnel shall be approved by the Marengo County Commission. (b)(1) The deputies shall receive the same compensation as a trooper with the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency and the compensation shall be adjusted on the anniversary date of the deputies' employment to include any raises, including cost-of-living raises that state troopers receive after or have received at the beginning of this fiscal year. The deputies shall be placed in the same step bracket as a trooper with the same length of service and shall automatically receive step raises according to their length of service. from liability for the underlying obligation except to the extent that the state government realizes final payment of the underlying obligation in cash or the equivalent. If final payment is not made by the credit card issuer or other guarantor of payment in the credit card transaction, then the underlying obligation shall survive and the state government shall retain all remedies for enforcement which would have applied if the credit card transaction had not occurred. (a) A county commission, by ordinance or resolution, may require all persons or firms that own timber in any unincorporated area of the county which plan to utilize county roads for delivery of pulpwood, logs, poles, posts, or wood chips to any wood yard or processing plant to provide notice of their intent to utilize the county roads to the county commission. For purposes of this section, the term timber owner means any person or firm that has entered into a contract with a landowner for the purposes of severing that timber and delivering pulpwood, logs, poles, posts, or wood chips to any wood yard or processing plant.
