Section 45-8A-22.11 Vacancies filled from eligible register. Whenever a vacancy exists in the
police or fire department, it shall be filled by appointment of one of the five persons who
rank highest on the appropriate eligible register of the board or by transfer within the service

Section 45-8A-112.11 Vacancies; appropriate eligible register; probationary appointments. Whenever
a vacancy exists in any position in the service of the city, with the exception of common
laborers, the vacancy shall be filled by appointment of one of the six persons who ranks highest

Section 36-26-26 Layoffs; furloughs. (a) In accordance with the rules, an appointing authority
may lay off an employee in the classified service whenever he or she deems it necessary by
reason of shortage of work or funds or the abolition of a position or other material change
in duties or organization. The seniority and service ratings of employees shall be considered,

Section 17-10-2 Provisional ballots; certification; tabulation; identification of ballots.
(a) A voter shall be required to cast a provisional ballot when: (1) The name of the individual
does not appear on the official list of eligible voters for the precinct or polling place
in which the individual seeks to vote, and the individual's registration cannot be verified
while at the polling place by the registrar or the judge of probate. (2) An inspector has
knowledge that the individual is not entitled to vote at that precinct and challenges the
individual. (3) The individual is required to comply with the voter identification provisions
