Section 45-39-200.04 Transfer of duties from Tax Assessor and Tax Collector. The county license commissioner shall perform all duties relative to the assessment and collection of taxes on motor vehicles in the county, which have heretofore been performed by the tax assessor and tax collector. Section 32-6-480 Issuance of distinctive license tags and plates. (a) An active or inactive member of the Alabama State Defense Force who is the owner of a motor vehicle and a resident of the state may be issued a distinctive Alabama State Defense Force license tag or plate. (a) It shall be unlawful for any person to mutilate or alter, for the purpose of deception, any motor vehicle tag, plate, or validation stamp or to use upon any motor vehicle any tags, plates, or validation stamps in imitation of or substitution for authorized issued tags, plates, or validation stamps. To prevent motor vehicles from escaping taxation and to provide for a more efficient procedure for assessment and collection of taxes due on same, no licenses shall be issued to operate motor vehicles on the public highways of this state, nor shall any transfer be made by the judge of probate until, the ad valorem tax on such vehicles shall have been paid to the county for the preceding year as evidenced by receipt from the judge of probate.
