Section 45-28-121.09 Abolishing positions. Whenever in the judgment of any appointing authority,
namely, the sheriff, judge of probate, tax assessor, tax collector, and Etowah County Commission,
it becomes necessary in the interest of economy or because the necessity for any position
in this appointing authority to no longer exist, he or she may abolish any position in the
classified service within his or her appointing authority and lay off the employee holding

Section 45-30A-50.15 Lay off of employees. Any employee may be separated from his or her position
by being laid off. Reduction in the number of employees shall be made in such class or classes
as the appointing authority may designate; provided, however, within each class affected by

to each class of position in the service of the city. No examination shall be given and no

Section 36-26-18 Extraordinary appointments. (a) Extraordinary appointments include temporary
appointments, emergency appointments, exceptional appointments and provisional appointments.
(b) Whenever the services to be rendered by an appointee are for a temporary period not to
exceed 104 workdays and the need for such service is important and urgent, the director may
select for such temporary service any person on the proper eligible register without regard

County. (b) A person who retired from the position of municipal police officer, deputy sheriff,
or other position that required certification by the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and
Training Commission, the commission, and who retired in good standing may be employed as a
part-time school resource officer by Etowah County or by a municipality or local school district
