Section 11-6-3 Duties. It shall be the duty of the said county engineer or chief engineer of
the division of public roads, subject to the approval and direction of the county commission
to: (1) Employ, supervise, and direct such assistants as are necessary to construct and maintain
properly the county public roads, highways, and bridges; (2) Perform such engineering and
surveying services as may be required to prepare and maintain the necessary maps, plans, and
records; (3) Maintain the necessary accounting records to reflect the cost of constructing
and maintaining the county highway system; and (4) Perform such other duties as are necessary
and incident to the operation of the county highway system as directed by the county commission.

Section 45-41-72.50 Personnel; costs. (a)(1) The Lee County Commission shall employ sufficient
appraisers, mappers, and clerical personnel to maintain on a current basis the appraisal and
mapping of all real property and valuation of personal property within Lee County. (2) The
cost of the maintenance program for the continued equalization of ad valorem taxes shall be
prorated by the Lee County Commission to each agency receiving ad valorem tax from property
in Lee County on the basis of the appropriation of the monies received by each agency in Lee

Section 11-6-1 Appointment; salary. The county commission shall be authorized to appoint a
county engineer or chief engineer of the division of public roads who shall serve full time
in such capacity for the county and the amount of whose salary shall be such sum as may be
fixed by the said county commission payable in equal monthly installments from county funds

Section 45-15-130.11 Employment of road supervisor in emergency. In the event of an emergency
in which it would be impossible for the commission to employ an engineer, the commission shall
employ a competent road supervisor who need not be an engineer, but, when so employed shall
have all the duties and authority of the engineer, and be subject to this article. An emergency
