Section 45-27-244.34 Payment of tax required for issuance of license. To prevent motor vehicles
from escaping taxation, and to provide for the more efficient assessment and collection of
taxes due on motor vehicles, no license shall be issued to operate a motor vehicle on the
public highways of this state, nor shall any transfer be made by the tax collector as provided
under this subpart until the ad valorem tax and the sales tax on the vehicle shall have been
paid in the county for the preceding year as evidenced by receipt of the tax collector, if
the motor vehicle belongs to a resident of Escambia County or is principally used or operated

Section 45-43-240.21 Powers and duties. The tax assessor shall perform all duties relating
to the issuing of motor vehicle licenses and titles in the county which have previously been
performed by the judge of probate or the tax assessor. The Judge of Probate and Tax Collector
of Lowndes County are relieved of all duties and responsibilities relative to the issuance
of motor vehicle licenses and titles and the assessment and collection of certain monies on
motor vehicle licenses and titles. The tax assessor shall receive the commissions and fees

Section 11-88-88 Redemption of property after sale - Applicant to deliver copies of improvement
assessment sale deed to probate judge; examination, etc., of deeds, etc., by probate judge;
mailing of copies of deed and warning to redeem to persons last assessed for ad valorem taxation

Section 45-46-84.21 Assessment and collection of taxes. The judge of probate shall perform
all duties relating to the assessment and collection of ad valorem taxes and casual sales
and use taxes and any other taxes on motor vehicles in the county, which have heretofore been
performed by the revenue commissioner and shall also collect any other taxes that may hereafter
be levied. The Revenue Commissioner of Marengo County is hereby relieved of all duties and
responsibilities relative to the assessment and collection of taxes of such motor vehicles.
The judge of probate shall receive the commissions and fees now allowed the revenue commissioner
for performing these functions and any future fees set by law, and such fees and commissions

Section 32-6-213 Probate judge or county official may issue temporary tags and certificates.
Each judge of probate of this state or other county official in this state authorized and
required by law to issue motor vehicle license tags shall have the authority, upon proper
request, to issue a temporary license tag and a temporary registration certificate to the
owner of a motor vehicle to be licensed in this state when, due to circumstances, a permanent
license tag cannot immediately be issued or when, in the judgment of the probate judge or
other county official authorized and required by law to issue motor vehicle license tags,
just cause exists for the issuance of such temporary license tag and registration certificate.
The temporary license tag provided for herein shall be of a color or design distinctive from
