Section 45-25-71 Election of members. (a) Effective the next election of the DeKalb County Commission, the members of the DeKalb County Commission shall be elected from single-member districts. Each member of the commission shall be a resident and qualified elector of the district he or she represents. (b) Not later than January 1 of the year of the next election of the county commission, the DeKalb County Commission shall adopt a plan dividing the county into districts of approximately equal population based on the immediately preceding federal decennial census. The variation between districts shall not exceed five percent plus or minus based on districts of equal population.
