(a) The Sheriff of Coffee County shall receive an expense allowance of twelve thousand dollars ($12,000) per year, payable in equal monthly installments from the general fund of the county as other county employees are paid. (a) It has come to the attention of the Legislature that the present compensation of the circuit judges and District Attorney for the Twenty-eighth Judicial Circuit is somewhat below the average of that being paid to circuit judges and district attorneys in other judicial circuits in this state which have considerably lighter caseloads than the Twenty-eighth Judicial Circuit. In Lowndes County, any cost-of-living increases, merit raises, one-time pay increases, or any other increases in compensation granted or paid to the sheriff prior to February 28, 2018, are ratified and confirmed without regard as to whether the compensation was correctly calculated or paid.
