Section 45-4-244.20 County sales tax to parallel state tax; exemptions; collection and
disposition of funds; enforcement. (a) All words, terms, and phrases that are defined in Article
1 of Chapter 23 of Title 40 shall, where used in this section have the meanings respectively
ascribed to them in Article 1 except where the context herein clearly indicates a different
meaning. In addition, the following words, terms, and phrases where used in this section

hereby levied, in lieu of the state sales tax levied by Section 40-23-2, a privilege
or license tax against the person on account of the business activities engaged in and in

Section 45-28-244.02 Amount of tax. (a) In Etowah County, notwithstanding the provisions
of Section 45-28-244.01, the amount of the tax authorized to be levied pursuant to
Section 45-28-244.01 upon each person, firm, or corporation engaged in the business
of selling at retail machines used in mining, quarrying, compounding, processing, and manufacturing
of tangible personal property, and any parts of such machines or any motor vehicle, truck
trailer, semitrailer, or house trailer shall be one-quarter of one percent of the sales price.
Provided, however, when any used motor vehicle, truck trailer, semitrailer, or house trailer
is taken in trade, or in a series of trades, as a credit or part payment on the sale of a

Section 45-24-243.02 Levy of tax. (a)(l) Except as provided in subsection (b), the County
Commission of Dallas County may levy, in addition to all other taxes, including, but not limited
to, municipal gross receipts license taxes, a one percent privilege license tax against gross

Section 40-12-240 Definitions. (a) For the purpose of this article, the following terms
shall have the respective meanings ascribed by this section: (1) DEPARTMENT. The Alabama
Department of Revenue. (2) ESTABLISHED PLACE OF BUSINESS. A place actually occupied either

Section 45-47-244.22 Levy of excise tax. (a) An excise tax is hereby imposed on the
following: (1) The storage, use, or other consumption in Marion County of tangible personal
property purchased at retail, on or after the first day of the month next succeeding the month

Section 40-23-4 Exemptions. (a) There are exempted from the provisions of this division
and from the computation of the amount of the tax levied, assessed, or payable under this
division the following: (1) The gross proceeds of the sales of lubricating oil and gasoline
as defined in Sections 40-17-30 and 40-17-170 and the gross proceeds from those sales of lubricating
